Bus Service to PanSIG 2017 Venue

Akita Kanko Bus Company has been hired to provide complimentary bus service from downtown Akita to AIU and back on May 20th and 21st. On Sunday afternoon, the trip back to Akita will include a stop at Akita Airport. The buses will leave from, and return to, Akita View Hotel (map). (Akita View Hotel is also the site of the Saturday night networking dinner.)

We are grateful to Akita International University, our supporting institution (協賛, or cosponsor), for covering the costs of this bus service.

While we are providing some assistance with transport this year, this is not normally a feature of any PanSIG conference. Please be aware that it is not the intention of the conference organizers to make provision for the transport needs of every participant. As with any conference, it is ultimately each participant's responsibility to make their own transport arrangements to and from the venue.

Please note that networking dinner banquet guests will be given boarding priority on three of the four busses leaving Saturday evening.

Schedule (Updated April 21)

Caveats and Alternatives

Please note: Seats on buses between Akita City and AIU (and back again) will be on a "first come - first served" basis. Capacity is 54 people per bus (all passengers must be seated, no standing), and there will be two buses making two trips each morning and afternoon.

We have done our best within budget to provide transport, but some people may need to rely on public transport if the buses become full. People would be very wise to check routes and timetables, as Akita is not like Tokyo or Osaka.

AIU is a considerable distance from the city, so people are strongly advised not to leave their transport arrangements to the last minute, especially if they wish to travel outside the times specified in the charter bus timetable we are providing.  iPhone has a new 'Maplet' app, which shows city transport connections. Taxis are expensive. Public transport is less frequent and trains/buses less well-connected here. For alternative ways to get to AIU, please see our page on how to access AIU.
